Activity #1 - Complete the "My Connected Life Survey"

The Internet is such a common part of our daily lives. Have each individual complete a brief “My Connected Life Survey” using the link or QR code or link provided.

We want to understand how important the Internet is to tween & teens' daily lives.

This survey is anonymous, and there are only 12 brief questions

Access the survey at:  https://forms.office.com/r/tUiuwcYd39.

The Project Teams that successfully find Michael Jackson will receive 10 bonus points toward their final project submission!

Context: Each project team will need to travel back in time to 1982 to visit “No-Fi Valley,” where there is no Wi_Fi to solve an important  mystery. The musical artist Michael Jackson has been kidnapped and missing for 4 days and his food supply is low. If Michael Jackson doesn’t make it, he will not have an opportunity to produce all the musical hits we’ve come to know and love…like Thriller…or Beat it. Once Michael Jackson’s location is known, you can come back to the future and we will get law enforcement to Michael Jackson right away.

Mission: We need your help on this mission! Each Project Team will have 25 minutes to travel back to 1982, when there was no Internet, to complete this mission by solving 8 clues to get the directions to find his location before it's too late.  Once Michael Jackson’s location is known, you can come back to the future, and we will get law enforcement to Michael Jackson right away. The Project Teams that successfully find him will receive 10 bonus points toward their final project submission!

Resources: Paper, pencil, Encyclopedia (see the pdf document), & paper map.

Instructions:

  1. Without using the Internet, work with your Project Team to uncover 8 clues using a paper map provided, the clues, and the factual details provided in the Clues, Map, & Encyclopedia (pdf document).

  2. Read and solve each clue in order and find the location the clue is referring to on the map. Once you find the location, use it to get to the location in the next clue. Do this until you have completed all 8 clues. Do not use the Internet or Google to solve the clues.

  3. Please have pen and paper (or use a shared document, if you’re virtual). Each team must use the clues to write out your directions and his exact location.

  4. When you solve the 8th clue, you will have uncovered Michael Jackson’s location.

  5. Once your Project Team has found Michael Jackson’s location, you all will return to the present in 2026. Then, and only then can your Project Team use the Internet to submit your directions and location for Michael Jackson using the online form to see if your group was successful: https://forms.office.com/r/Q3mw7yvYAJ.

The Project Teams that successfully find him will receive 10 bonus points toward their final project submission!

Good luck with this Back to the Future Mission!
