Week 6 Curriculum

Welcome to Week 6 of the CoT Program. This page contains the program curriculum for the Week 6 session.

Objectives: The objectives of this session are to:

Understand and explore DEI systemic environmental injustices with vulnerable communities.
Explore different perspectives that influence how tough decisions are made with global climate change, transportation, and energy matters that affect vulnerable communities.
Provide a high-level overview of the CoT Final Project Competition.

DEI Scenario Roleplaying Worksheet for Teens:

Instructions:

Download and/or print the DEI Scenario Roleplaying Worksheet.
Teens will break up into groups of 3-5.
Read the scenario and work in a group to make a group decision.
Read your role and use that position to work as a group to approve or disapprove the oil extraction permit and why.
Discuss and debate your positions (based on your role) to come to a consensus. Share your position based on your role. Each role will discuss:
- What would you like to happen?
- What are you worried might happen?
- What would it take for you to approve the permit or to disapprove the permit?
- What stipulations or requirements would you place on the permit, if approved?
Document the final decision and why the group made the decision on the DEI Scenario Roleplaying Worksheet.
- Also submit one to 3 (1-3) DEI questions for the virtual roundtable discussion in Week 7.
- Facilitators should email each group's worksheet to: cot@bgcgw.org.

1. Session Debrief Questions:

In reality, who would have the power to make the final decision?
How did the decision impact the vulnerable community?
If you were a local resident, did you feel your voice was heard?
Is there a single right answer or solution?
How did your initial perspective shift or change based on other factors or concerns raised?
Leaders often make tough decisions. What made this decision tough for you?

Submit one Scenario Roleplaying Worksheet per per group. Email them to CoT at: cot@bgcgw.org.
Provide an Overview of Week 7.
Record attendance for Week 6.
